Berlin Public Library: is open to the public. Summer reading is Read Beyond the Beaten Path and combines camp, adventure and skill development. Contact the library for information. Traveling backpack week at the beginning of August: Each orange backpack has two compasses, a flashlight, bookmarks to color, a notebook and pencil, postcards and a letter to young campers; stay tuned for more details. Story Time at the library, 10:30 a.m., Mondays, Aug. 8, 15, 22 and 29, either outside or in the children's room. A four-hour American Red Cross Babysitter Certification Class will be Thursday, Aug. 11, 3-7 p.m., in Barnes Hall at the 1870 Town Hall, 12 Woodward Ave. Cost is $68 per student, to be paid at registration, cash or check made payable to "Safety Savvy"  The recommended age is 11-15 and includes topics such as care of infants and children, what to do in case of emergencies, choosing age appropriate activities, basic first aid and hands-only CPR. Berlin’s Family Food Pantry: is open, by appointment, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Call (774) 245-8320 for information or to make an appointment. The Berlin Family Food Pantry serves residents of Berlin, as well as non-residents who are employed by the Town of Berlin, or students/families in the Berlin school system. Democratic Town Committee: will meet virtually via Zoom on Monday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. The only item on the agenda will be the selection of officers, as the current chairman has announced his intention to resign. Members should check their email or the DTC Facebook page for more information.

Early Voting: for the Sept. 6 primary in the town clerk's office in Town Hall, 663 Main St.: Saturday, Aug. 27, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Monday, Aug. 29, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 30, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 31, 9:30-2:30 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.; and Thursday, Sept. 1, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. You can also vote by mail by submitting an application by Monday, Aug. 29, 5 p.m. Applications can be found on the town clerk’s page of the town’s website www.townofbolton.com. Care Closet: at Nashoba Regional High School is stocked and products are available to students over the summer. Students can contact Tracy Landry, school librarian, tlandry@nrsd.net, or Emily Chaves, library assistant, at echaves@nrsd.net with a list of requested items. Care bags will be put together for pick up at the high school office. Donations accepted of gently used clothing, cold weather gear, personal care products and school supplies.  There is a bin located in the foyer at NRHS, 12 Green Road.  

DCR Summer Program:  Fishtory - The History of Fishing at the Reservoir, Thursday, Aug. 25, 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Boylston Library; registration required directly with the library or get a link to join online, www.boylstonlibrary.org, or (508) 869-2371; Watershed Rangers present the history of fishing from the 1890s to today from historical state records and showcase the species of fish in the reservoir from surveys; presentation is followed by a question and answer session. Dogs and domestic animals are prohibited on watershed lands. New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill: Uprooted Land Art, by W. Gary Smith, runs through Nov. 1. The Ramble is open  with a new children's garden. Summer Star Wildlife Sanctuary: trails open Saturdays through Tuesdays, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Music in the Woods, featuring the Jasper String Quartet, Thursday, Aug. 18, 4 p.m., in the Tree Room of The Trailhead House. Back to School Backpacks: Registration open for new clients 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and Monday and Thursdays  from 4:30-6 p.m. Parents/guardians need to bring ID and proof of enrollment from the school. Last day for new clients to register is Friday, Aug. 12. Backpacks with school supplies will be distributed on Monday, Aug. 22,  from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Questions can be directed to the WHEAT office at (508) 370-4943.

Museum of Russian Icons:  August Adventures with Highland Street Foundation sponsoring free activities and admission; the Museum of Russian Icons is featured on Friday, Aug. 19, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. "Tea is for Tradition" exhibit, through Oct. 2, featuring an array of objects associated with tea drinking and the infusion of tea culture in Russian Art, craft and literature, including samovars, wooden dolls. "Images of Atheism: The Soviet Assault on Religion," through Oct. 2. Admission is free Friday, Aug. 19, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., thanks to the Highland Street Foundation and August Adventures; at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., the family-friendly program, "Young Curators: Discovering Fairy Tales Through Artifacts," will be offered for children 6 and older to explore Slavic fairy tails and receive their own pair of white museum gloves to learn how museum professionals handle cultural artifacts. The museum is collecting new school supplies or backpacks for WHEAT's Tools for School program for children in kindergarten through grade 12, with everything from crayons to calculators. Iconographer Christopher Gosey will spend Saturday, Aug. 20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., varnishing his icon of St. Tekle Haymanot; at 1 p.m., he will give an informal lecture on his work as an iconographer. Item Appeal Representatives: will meet with clients the first and third Wednesdays, 6-7 p.m., in the basement of St. John's Church. The next sessions are Aug. 17 and Sept. 7 and 21. Subject to change due to volunteer availability. Masks required. Money is not given out at the time; this is to fill out the forms to start the process. Funds are still very limited, but representatives will try their best to help those in need.

Summer Sidewalk Fest: hosted by Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce on High Street, Saturday, Aug. 20, noon-4 p.m. Theme is the '70s, an honor of Sunrise Boutique opening 50 years ago. Girl Scout Troop 65337: welcoming girls entering grades K and 1 in the fall. The troop will meet in Clinton with the day and time to be determined. Clinton High School Food Pantry: open for students and families needing assistance. There is new clothing, personal care items and food to students in need. There are grab-and-go, easy to prepare meals, toiletries and a small selection of diapers. Little Free Pantry Summer Guidelines: accepting diapers, baby wipes, toiletries and feminine hygiene products. Also accepting dry foods like boxed cereal, summer snacks for children, fish crackers and chips.  USDA recommendations: Canned foods and other shelf-stable foods (condiments) cannot be stored in places exposed to high or low temperature extremes. The pantry gets hot in the summer and cannot keep donated perishables or canned foods in the pantry or donate them to the WHEAT food pantry.  The pantry is located at the First Church, 725 Main St., open 24/7 and stocked by the community for the community.

Cultural Council: announces grant application process begins Sept. 1. Deadline to apply is Oct. 15. Money can pay for local music concerts in the park during summer months, field trips for school children, artists in residence, community events and more. Groups or individuals may also come up with ideas and apply. Plastic Bag Recycling Program: sponsored by Wachusett Area Rotary Club, the third Saturday of the month. Bring your recyclable plastic bags to the Draught House, 44 West Boylston St., from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The goals is to collect 500 pounds of bags within six months with Trex Recycling Programs.
