ESSEX — The newest work by emerging and established fine artists and artisans from Connecticut, New England, and the tri-state region will display their creations at the annual summer arts festival on the Essex Town Green.

Presented by the Arts Center Killingworth and Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook, the festival will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Visitors can enjoy many attractions, including fine restaurants, “picturesque marina, noteworthy” New England architecture, “and serene green spaces and vistas,” according to a press release.

Also, at the nearby Spectrum Art Gallery and Store, 61 Main St., in the Centerbrook area of town, people can view the exhibit, “Clouds, Winds & Breezes” running through July 10.

Original artwork will be presented by painters, both representational and abstract, working in oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography and mixed media, the news release said. An extensive collection of fine crafts can be found in pottery, wood, glass, as well as unique jewelry creations.

There are many artists showing for the first time, including Anna Mastropolo, a textile artist, jewelry designer, and large-scale gouache and mixed media painter; and award-winning artist Jeff Blazejovsky, who works in watercolor, graphite and colored pencil.

Painter and mixed media artist Sabely Peralta is also new, the statement said. Raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and now living in Springfield, Mass., she is inspired by nature, her home country, New England, and techniques that incorporate acrylic paint and textiles.

Painter Maria Miro Johnson explores everyday life using the “emotionally expressive potential” of paint. “She depicts interiors in a brushy, gestural style that is largely realistic, but can be read as abstract,” the gallery said.

Yvonne Gordon Moser is known for her organic monotypes, feminine figure paintings and mixed media art. She was also was featured in Home and Garden Magazine as a “local artist worth owning.”

Tatiana Ferraro returns with new watercolors such as sky and waterscapes, and a piece capturing a “majestic” Venetian canal. Lisa Conti, also a mixed-media artist, merges a passion for nature and photography with pen and ink.

Mark Seth Lender is a nature writer, photographer and the explorer in residence at Living on Earth, a national broadcast on public radio. His fieldwork with wildlife spans a quarter of a century, seven continents, and serves as the basis for the segments he produces for the program.

Other fine artisans include Marc and Mary Dutko, a husband-and-wife team with a passion for fine woodworking, fine food and beautiful photography, the statement said. Through combined artistic skill and vision, they create unique, artisan, heirloom-quality kitchen woodenware.

Claudine Burns Smith is a ceramic artist who has had numerous group and solo exhibitions of her functional ceramics and sculptures throughout the United States, France, the former Soviet Union and China. She carves the surface of her pieces and favors vibrant colors.

Also attending are Spectrum favorites: potter Nancy Scilipote; soy candlemaker Janice Wood; glass artisan Joan Weir, who makes whimsical creations in stained glass from picture frames, contemporary suncatchers to glass sculptures; and fine artisan Marie Angersola, who carves and adorns gourds into mini sculptures.

Also, a wide mix of unique and fine jewelry can be had in multiple styles in a mixture of materials such as semi-precious stones and fine metals.
