Monterey Car Week is one of the few events that took place this year, with pretty much everything else being canceled due to the Covid crisis. As no surprise, the event went from gathering unique classic cars to displaying some of the most amazing future designs and technologies. Acura, for example, is one of the makers that picked Monterey to present its new Precision EV - a study that previews the company’s future design language. It will be used for the first time in the company’s first all-electric SUV set to arrive in 2024. If the name sounds familiar, it is because back in 2016 the company unveiled the Precision concept - a low-slung, sporty sedan with a fastback-like roof that features styling cues that were then used in future Acura models.

The concept, which looks a little bit bigger than the RDX, features a wide, athletic stance and expressive silhouette with design elements inspired by the luxury Italian power boats. The concept is very easily recognizable as an Acura model, but it offers a few changes too. For example, up front, the traditional Diamond Pentagon grille was replaced by an illuminated grille panel with a motif called the "Particle Glitch." Even the signature Acura caliper badge now illuminates in a soft-glow, pattern. The same "Particle Glitch" pattern is used in the rear fascia and on the spokes of the concept’s 23-inch wheels. The Precision EV concept is painted in Double Apex Blue with a matte finish and satin silver contrasting elements.

On the inside, the cabin features a cockpit inspired by the Formula 1 race car with a yoke-style steering wheel and bow-shaped instrument panel accents. There are two different modes for the cabin: Instinctive Drive mode and Spiritual Lounge mode. In the first mode, the steering wheel is placed within the driver’s reach, the digital instrumentation features a racing style, and the entire cabin offers red accent lighting. The second mode retracts the steering wheel, the red is changed to blue, and displays a soothing underwater graphic on the screens so the driver can relax and recharge.

The entire cabin is made from environmentally responsible materials, like marbled recycled plastic and 100% biomass leather. Even the aluminum used and the dimensional green cast acrylic that forms the steering wheel secondary controls were made from recycled materials.

According to Acura, the Precision EV previews the company’s all-electric future. Its design language should first be seen in the company’s first all-electric SUV set to arrive in 2024.
