Fine Arts Club: May 18, 2022 - The New Bedford Light

2022-06-18 20:01:59 By : Ms. Emily Yang

Welcome to the New Bedford Light Fine Arts Club. It’s a place to celebrate talented local artists; a marketplace where buyers, enthusiasts and artists meet. And if something strikes you, it’s also a place where everything is for sale.

For the first time, we’re meeting in person! On June 11 at 3:30 p.m. we will gather at Dough Co. (DoCo) in the Kilburn Mill as another batch of talented local artists share their work, which anyone attending can purchase.

Immediately following the Fine Arts Club meeting, join us for The New Bedford Light’s first birthday celebration at our second floor office.  There will be cake and a Q&A session with our editor, Barbara Roessner, from 5-6 p.m.

Submitted bio: Alex’s sculptural work is derived from materials inspired by and gathered from the maritime industry. Periodically this includes material with historical value. Conceptually, there are deep layers of semiotics, symbolism, and logography. The fibrous and tactile qualities in his main body of work are extremely satisfying for viewers and collectors to discuss as the pieces carry a strong presence, adding character and statement to any architectural setting. He works heavily by commission with an average of 3-4 weeks lead time.

Description: A mixed media illustration/painting; Micron Pen, TomBow Dual Brush Marker, Chalk Marker and Acrylic Paint on Canson Illustration Art Board. Depicting two androids that protect a galaxy through a network of tubes and wires, they were programmed to do as such and have been for centuries. Submitted bio: I am an artist local to New Bedford, MA and have been actively pursuing art in the area for over 8 years now. I work in various mediums (anything I can get my hands on), and love creating surrealist art, though at this time I am mostly known to do commissions in realism. I love working with, most, the female form, architecture and sci-fi imagery.

Description: A mixed media illustration/painting; Micron Pen, TomBow Dual Brush Marker, Chalk Marker and Acrylic Paint on Canson Textured Mixed Media Art Board. Depicting an alien overlord who has god-like powers, his size and all seeing eyes allow him to place a sole human among his labyrinths of endless empty rooms. This is a glimpse into a nightmare world, must really suck to be that little guy. Inspired by retro futurism, psychedelia and the works of Terry Gilliam and Rene Laloux (heavily inspired by Fantastic Planet)
