Michael B. Carapellotti Charitable Foundation

planning Oktoberfest for Sept. 16 and 17

STEUBENVILLE — The Michael B. Carapellotti Charitable Foundation will be hosting its third-annual Oktoberfest at Franciscan Square next week.

The two-day event on Sept. 16 and 17 will be filled with vendors, crafts, and polka and mainstream bands headlined by a rising duo called Rightfield which features a variety of songs with more than 1 million Spotify listens.

The hours are Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Performing on Friday will be Madel Jager, specializing in polka style music and adding German flavor to Oktoberfests, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the Garrett Tatano Band from Pittsburgh specializing in Slovenian polka but with their own twist, 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

On Saturday the entertainment lineup offers Mon Valley Push, a polka band that can play any classic but has added several modern instruments, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Jack Thornton, who in addition to his uncanny Johnny Cash impression sings and plays “an array of music from ’60s hits to country to Good Riddance, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.;” contemporary singer and songwriter Molly McManus, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and upcoming indie-alt band Rightfield, 8:30 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.

Desperado Dogs will be on hand Friday evening, and Pappy’s Kettle Corn offering a variety of flavors will have a presence both evenings.

Among the vendors participating are Caramel and Coconut caramel apples and sweet holiday treats; Megan’s Chocolate Factory; Kelsey’s Custom Kups; Buon Sapore original Italian imports featuring Italian ceramics and homemade limoncello; Lucy Mari and Co. featuring handmade jewelry and “delightfully scented slime;” handmade canes and walking sticks made by Rich Pizzoferrato, who also will have some vintage Star Wars characters.

“There’s something for everyone. We are hoping to fill the square and raise money for a worthy cause,” noted Rita Carapellotti, a representative of the foundation along with Franco, Nikki and Michael C. Carapellotti.

“We will have beer available for purchase and also pumpkin painting for the kids and drawings for all,” she added.

The Michael B. Carapellotti Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, was founded in 2015 with the mission to raise funds in hopes to help alleviate some of the financial burdens on families during the time of transplant hospitalization and return medical visits. The cost of lodging, meals, parking and just being away from work for long periods of time can be financially devastating. “With the generous support of people like you, we were able to help UPMC Transplant Guardian Angels as well as Family House of Pittsburgh,” it is noted in a letter recruiting sponsorships and tax-deductible donations, the latter of which can be made at any time to the Michael B. Carapellotti Charitable Foundation and mailed to P.O. Box 1152, Steubenville, OH 43952.

The foundation was formed to honor the memory of Mike Carapellotti, a successful businessman who loved his family, his work and his community. He was “a very generous supporter of various charities and events in the community.”

In February of 2014 he received a dual transplant, which required a 40-day stay in the hospital, but lost his hard-fought 13-year battle in March of that year. “While at the hospital our family saw firsthand the difficulties and financial burden that many families were going through. Inspired by Mike’s generosity we have formed this foundation to help these families while honoring Mike.”
